Birthmarks can often be uncomfortable for people, making them self-conscious. In such cases where the birthmark causes discomfort or unwanted attention that the person can do without, birthmark removal is often considered. More often than not, people with facial birthmarks choose to get their birthmarks removed compared to those with marks in a less visible area.
What Causes Birthmarks?
Birthmarks are marks or blemishes on the body that are either already present when one is born or develops shortly after birth. These marks can be a different colour from your skin, making them starkly visible against your skin. More often than not, birthmarks are brown or red in colour and vary in size and shape.
In certain cases, the occurrence of a birthmark can be genetic. The birthmark may appear similar to those of other members of the family. However, this is not always the case. There are different types of birthmarks with different causes leading to their occurrence. The common reasons for the occurrence of a birthmark are pigmentation, leading to a brown mark, or the too many blood vessels incorrectly formed, leading to a red mark.
