Anti-wrinkle injections WITH DR SABER
Anti-wrinkle injections WITH DR SABER
When we are younger, our skin is highly elastic and can bounce back more easily. With age, this elasticity starts to diminish, which makes the skin less resilient and more prone to lines, wrinkles and other common effects of ageing.
Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments around today because it’s simple, highly effective and long-lasting.
In less than 30 minutes, patients can smooth out the wrinkles and expression lines that cause them to look older, angry or fatigued.
Anti-wrinkle injections EXPLAINED
Also known as wrinkle relaxers, anti-wrinkle injections contain a unique protein that once injected into a particular area of the face, will relax that muscle and prevent it from contracting as much as it once did. Along with preventing lines from forming in the future, this treatment will also help reduce the appearance of existing lines and wrinkles.
During your appointment with Dr Saber at our Werribee clinic in Melbourne, your needs and concerns will be discussed before several small injections are administered into specific areas of the face. Since every patient has unique concerns, the number of injections that are required will be different for everyone.
Excluding your initial consultation and depending on how many areas need to be treated, the average appointment takes 20 – 30 minutes. To ease any potential discomfort during your session, a topical anaesthetic can be applied to the treated area.
Following your appointment, there may be some mild bruising and swelling but this will subside within a few hours and can be covered up using mineral makeup. However, it’s essential to be very gentle when applying any makeup within a few hours of your session.
Anti-wrinkle injections are ideal for adults who have noticeable facial expression lines, particularly in between the eyebrows and across the forehead. Dr Saber will also need to review your medical history to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for this anti-ageing treatment.
While it can be done, there is no need to receive treatment on the same day as your consultation.
Areas that Can Be Treated
The following areas are most commonly treated with wrinkle relaxer injections:
- Forehead wrinkles
- Frown lines in between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
- Under-eye lines
- Marionette lines around the mouth
- Nasolabial folds around the nose
RESULTS ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS
The results of your anti-wrinkle injections will not be immediately visible as it takes time for the protein to take effect. In most instances, patients can expect to see smoother, tighter skin after a week or two. From there, the results will last at least three months but they can last as long as six.
Patients who want to maintain a more youthful complexion will need to schedule maintenance appointments with Dr Saber. Should you not wish to continue with anti-wrinkle injection treatments, the effects will wear off and your face will return to its original state within a few months.
To achieve the best possible results, it’s important to not touch or run the treated area(s) for several hours after your appointment as this could cause the product to migrate. Extreme temperatures should also be avoided for at least a week to prevent complications. Patients who have an exercise routine should refrain from working out for at least a day after their appointment to prevent the product from shifting. Since there will be some mild swelling and redness, it’s best to avoid direct sun exposure for several days. Excessive alcohol consumption is discouraged after your appointment.
While wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers may sound very similar, these two types of cosmetic injections are used for very different reasons. While anti-wrinkle injections are used to relax the muscles that are responsible for deep wrinkles and expression lines, dermal fillers are used to add volume to specific areas of the face, including the cheeks, lips, forehead and under-eye area. These two cosmetic treatments can be administered at the same time if patients would like to address both volume loss and lines and wrinkles at the same time.
Mild redness, bruising and swelling are some of the most common side effects following a wrinkle relaxer session. However, these effects wear off gradually within a few hours. There is also a chance that a patient could have an allergic reaction but this is why a medical history review is undertaken during your consultation. Many patients are also worried that they will end up with a frozen face but this would only ever happen if you were treated by an inexperienced or unqualified injector. Dr Saber (Fellow of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners – RACGP) will take you through all of the potential risks during your consultation so that you know what to expect but any major side effects are very rare.
